Daddy and Mommy's Work

Last week while I was at work, Brett took the kids to a customer appreciation party that one of his vendors threw. It was at Sugar House Park and they had face painting, balloons, treats, and hot dogs. Haylee wanted nothing to do with the face painting (it was too "kaka"), she loved the balloons (not a fan of the clown), her and Dylan both loved the ice cream, and instead of eating a hot dog they fed their buns to the duckies (or sea gulls).

Dylan loves his Grandpa Steve!

Dylan loved his ice cream too!

When they had enough fun at Daddy's party they headed down to my work for our "Family Safety Fair." We had a fire truck, ambulance, and police car that the kids could "drive." They also gave away free identification packets to all of the kids. Haylee was a little unsure about climbing all the way up to the driver's seat of the fire truck, but had no hesitations when it came to driving the police car! Dylan decided to just take a nap in the car with his grandpa during all of this, so sorry, no pics of the little man!

Happy 3rd Father's Day!

helping Daddy open his present
He opened the Bob Dylan t-shirts first w/ a note that said "go downstairs"

Downstairs his present was waiting on the fireplace!
These 3 are my faves!

Yesterday marked Brett's 3rd Father's Day. I was especially excited for this day, because unlike other years, I had a secret Father's Day present planned. A little while back I decided to take pictures of the kids in Bob Dylan shirts. To make this happen I called my very talented friend Brittany to take the pictures for me. I also had Brett get a Bob Dylan quote for me, but he had no clue what it was for. I chose "I take good care of what belongs to me..." and printed it on the bottom of the picture. Everything came together perfectly and I pulled it off without him suspecting a thing! A lot of work went into it, but it was well worth it. Brett is the hardest worker I know. He is also the BEST Daddy to our kids. He plays with them, cuddles with them, teases them, kisses them, hugs them, prays for them, fasts for them, worries about them, and loves them with his whole heart. It's so very important to me to have a husband that is also a great father. Brett has exceeded that expectation and is a WONDERFUL father. When Brett gets home from work Haylee stops whatever she is doing and runs to give him a hug! Dylan also lights up when he sees his daddy. I look forward to sharing many more Father's Days to come! Love you Brett!

2 years ago from June 15th, Brett and I sat in the Judge's Chambers at the Salt Lake Court House and officially became Haylee's legal parents. 2 years ago from yesterday, June 19th, Brett, Haylee, and I sat across the alter in the Salt Lake Temple and became an eternal family. I can't believe it's really been 2 years! 3 years ago we were childless and still going through infertility treatments. If you were to tell me then that in 1 year we would be parents to the most beautiful little girl, I would have called you crazy! We are so grateful for Haylee in our lives. She brings such a sweet and tender spirit to our home. She is at such a fun and challenging age right now and there's never a dull moment with her!
To celebrate her adoption day we asked Haylee what she wanted to do and she said "go swimming!" So we loaded up the kids after their long afternoon nap and headed over to the pool. 30 minutes later we were loading the kids back in the car to come home :) She's going through a "swimming scares me, but I still want to do it" phase. After eating a late dinner we whipped out a cupcake, stuck a candle on top, and sang "Happy Adoption Day to you!" Haylee was in heaven and thought it was her Birthday! We look forward to many more days like this to come! Love you Haylee Bailey!!

Remembering and Making Connections

Yesterday marked the one year anniversary of Brett's grandpa Earl passing away. To pay our respects we went and visited the cemetery. Haylee didn't quite get it when we pulled up to the cemetery since we had told her we were going to go visit great grandpa Earl. She was however thrilled to carry the flowers to his grave! She also kept saying "Grandpa sleeping?" and when we left she said "Bye Grandpa, Love you, have a good nappy!" and blew him a kiss. She was always good at blowing kisses to her "Papa." While we were there I asked Brett if he was OK. He replied, "the hardest part about this, is Haylee and Dylan won't be able to get to know him..." which is true. He was a great man and an awesome grandpa with tons of stories to tell. He also had a passion for life that I have never seen in anyone else I have met.
The cool part about our visit were all of the other family members surrounding Earl's grave. To the south are Earl's parents and to the west is his sister Bonnie and her husband. Some of you may remember that our daughter Haylee's birthmother is Brett's second cousin, which actually makes Haylee his second cousin once removed. So although we were looking at Brett's great grandparent's grave, we were also looking at Haylee's great great grandparent's grave as well. And Earl's sister and her husband are Haylee's biological great grandparents too! It was kind of cool to look at all of those who have passed on and because of them, we are a family! Brett made the comment "Haylee's more related to this family than I am!" One day she will understand it all and think it's cool too!

Brett's grandma Ruth Ann & grandpa Earl, which are technically Haylee's biological great great aunt & uncle :)

Oquirrh Mountain Temple

It was pouring outside, so we couldn't get a picture in front of the temple, but here we are in the reception area
On Wednesday Brett and I got tickets to go to the Oquirrh Mountain Temple Open House. It is such a beautiful temple and once again we felt so blessed to have the opportunity to take our kids into the house of the Lord. This is now Haylee's 4th time being in a temple and Dylan's 3rd. The entire time we were there Haylee was very quiet because if you asked her she'd say "Jesus sleeping." Right when we pulled in the parking lot Haylee said "Temple!! I find it temple! Jesus House!" She was so excited to go inside and I hope she never loses that excitement.
The inside of the temple is beautiful. I loved all of the open space and warm colors. I am looking forward to doing temple work inside some day! Temples hold such a special place in our hearts. We know without them our family could not be sealed for time and all eternity.

Getting So Big!

I can't believe Dylan is already 9 1/2 months old! He is getting bigger every day! On Wednesday we were at the Oquirrh Mountain Temple open house and after the tour you get a cookie and water. Well, Brett was holding Dylan and far from leaping out of Brett's arms to get the cookie, he tried everything in his power to reach it. Brett turned to me and said "I bet he'd crawl to this..." Two seconds later the cookie was about a foot away from Dylan and they were both on the ground. Point two seconds later Dylan had the cookie in his hand! And that is the first time Dylan crawled! Since then he's just rolled to everything. Now he's an army crawling machine. He loves to crawl and discover new things. Yesterday he had already discovered the tupperware cupboard. When Brett got home from work and saw him playing with his new toys he just said "oh no, not you too!" It's funny how kids seem to always get into the same messes! Here are a few things I want to remember about this stage...
*He is sleeping great! 10 hours strait most nights and if he wakes up any sooner he drinks a bottle and goes right back down
*He's a total momma's boy! It's bad, but what mommy doesn't love it?
*He eats great! He mostly prefers whatever we're eating, but will eat whatever you put in front of him.
*He says- Dada, Mama, and Baba
*He has the funniest little cackle when he laughs
*He has such a sweet little temperament and is content as long as he is fed and isn't tired
*He idolizes his big sister and watches and laughs at her all the time
*He loves to clap! We need to work on some new tricks :)
We just love our little Dylan!!
Oh and this is what was happening while I was typing this post. Shame on mommy to think the kids were just playing quietly without getting into trouble! Haylee drew on Dylan's face with a pen :)

It's finally done, the day that all adoptive couples have been waiting for... the new web site! Brett and I were asked last April to help with this new little project. They were hoping to have it completed by last fall, but deadlines were set back. But low and behold, it's finally finished!! Here's where you can find our little inserts...
So if you know anyone who is wanting to adopt or if you know anyone who is pregnant and they are unsure if they are going to parent the baby- give them this web site! We have a huge place in our hearts for this agency!
I wonder why??

A few things I am loving right now...

I love that my kids are starting to play with each other. Dylan gets around pretty well in his walker and loves to follow his big sister around. Haylee probably doesn't enjoy it as much as I do, but she does have her "nice sister" moments and will sit and play with Dylan. The other day while I was making dinner, Haylee was looking outside and Dylan wanted to so bad, but his walker would only allow him to go so close. I still thought it was so stinkin' cute!

Right now and always I love the relationships that we have with my children's birthparents. Jen came over to visit Dylan the other day and it was so good to see her (way cute new haircut too)! We just sat and talked and laughed about Dylan. She is such an amazing person and I am so glad to have her and Skyler in our lives!
